Chennai levels, though attrition is lower as well, and employers here often tell us they would happily trade a few thousand rupees for someone who stays five years. Where things get difficult is at the senior end. A planner or QA head with twelve years in a specialized area is rarely sitting in Madurai waiting for a call. Usually that person is in Chennai, Bengaluru, or somewhere in the Gulf, and persuading them home can take several conversations over a couple of months.

Some of the factors that make or break a Tamil Nadu offer never appear in a job description.

The first is the native place. A candidate's family home carries real weight, and we regularly see people accept a slightly lower salary for a role within driving distance of it. That is good news for a plant in Krishnagiri, which can often find solid candidates in Salem or Dharmapuri who have no wish to live in Chennai.

Then there is the calendar. Very few people resign in the weeks around Pongal, and a good number would rather collect their April appraisal before switching jobs. Chennai has its own quirk: between October and December, northeast monsoon rains can wreck an interview schedule at short notice, so it helps to keep a video option ready.

Language deserves a mention too. If the role is plant HR, industrial relations, or regional sales, the person will spend much of the day speaking with workers, union representatives, or distributors, and doing that in Tamil is close to essential. We ask the employer about this before anything else, since it can shrink or widen the candidate pool dramatically.
